Conversation with Collin Sewell 3.23.16

Meeting with Collin Sewell

How do you become a respectable among the entire congregation?  Thoughts on leading cross-generationally.

· Service and respect and intent
· No such thing as a hidden agenda.
· Ensure your intent is pure, because people will see right through it
· Older you are, the more people can see through the hidden agenda
· Spend the majority of your time working on the pure intent
· How do you earn respect and ensure they feel heard?
· OLDER GROUP can be divided into 3 groups: Apathetic, I shall not be moved, Those in the middle
· Learn to speak to each group and hear what they desire, making them feel valued.
· PRACTICALLY: Ask for a small opportunity to lead in that area.
· Wisdom of the ages---what is it RETRO would share. (Lead through influence not position) -- get buy in by listening not telling them anything.
· Cast a Vision big enough for everyone to fit in the picture.
· Pass this down = Share this with one another = receive from you
· Older than me = same age = younger than you

Leading Up in Authority:
· 1) Pick your battles - decide what is really worth it
· 2) Think back on the times an idea was received well - find the pattern to decision making. (For Collin - it's opportunity)
You will hurt your credibility if you are working in an area that can't be fixed right now.

Lay the information out data and pray.
