Random Lessons on Leading Well (especially in new environments)

True loyalty is telling people what they need to know what they need to know it.  Loyalty is not simply supporting the person you are trying to be loyal to.  Its respecting that person enough to having the hard conversations.

Interpersonal 360 degree leadership requires us to disagree without being disagreeable.

When leading below a direct superior, be sure to understand exactly where the 'line' is...what can you do and not do.  This is a practical tool for leading those around you!

When beginning a new leadership position, be sure to begin well, be humble, admit your still learning, and serve those whom you have authority over.

Ensure you embrace what you don't like so you can learn from it!

KEY to disagreement is not 'powering up' on those who are working for you, the key is to earn respect disagreeing to make the people around you better.

Be sure to admit to those around you, that you 'need their help'.

Before stepping over a pre-defined line, ask the boss.

Leaders are always faster than people they are leading.

People don't want to see how well a person of influence deals with issues, but how they deal with it transparently.

There is a big difference between a person liking a respecting you.

Stories stick, principles fade.

A random danger -- we pour into groups more than we should, and less into individuals than we should.  All because it is safer to pour into a group.  Authenticity is not as required.

When pouring into a person, don't expect anything in return.

If you pour your life into someone you might help them be saved from a life of bad choices.   Do for one what you wish you could do for many. (Andy Stanley)

Intention doesn't matter, direction determines destination.

Generosity is giving of yourself what people need most.
